Sunreef / Bcomp

The new 100 Sunreef Power luxury catamaran uses flax-based biocomposites in its cabin interior. Its bow, bar, barbecue and navigation station are made from Bcomp’s ampliTex material, which consists of flax fibres combined with a bio-based or recyclable resin.
Swiss biocomposite company Bcomp is now collaborating with luxury yacht builder Sunreef Yachts, enabling it to incorporate natural fibres into the interior design of its new motor model. This partnership reduces the boat’s environmental impact and creates a more natural aesthetic, while improving the passenger experience thanks to the vibration-damping properties of flax. The material’s vibration-damping properties also provide passengers with a quiet and comfortable interior. These interior elements are manufactured in pearl grey and charcoal colours.
A new area of expansion
“Collaborating with Bcomp, a company that shares our commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility, allowed us to explore a new design language where natural materials elevate both aesthetics and performance of our interiors, says Nicolas Lapp, CTO and Cofounder at Sunreef. Luxury should be redefined, not by excess but by conscious creation. True sustainable yachting embraces the natural elements, with the ocean breeze as its soundtrack,” he continues.
“By collaborating with Sunreef, we can establish bio-based composites as a staple in the customised design and construction of eco catamarans”, says Paolo Dassi, Director of Marine & Industry at Bcomp, for whom this collaboration paves the way for the expanded use of its technical fabrics for semi-structural parts in catamarans.

Bcomp’s natural fibre composites have already proven themselves in terms of resistance to the most extreme conditions, from Formula 1 seats to sailing boats, yachts and production dinghies, as well as solar-powered ferries. This collaboration with Sunreef further expands the use of these sustainable materials in the marine sector.
