Swiss manufacturer of high-performance and sustainable materials Bcomp has teamed up with BMW M to develop the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse concept car, unveiled at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, an endurance motor race whose most recent edition took place on 13 and 14 June 2026 at the Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, France. BMW M’s natural-fibre-based composites won the 2026 JEC Innovation Award in the Automotive & Road Transportation – Parts category.

The BMW M ‘Neue Klasse’ concept incorporates Bcomp’s ampliTex material into its interior and exterior components, notably in the roof. Bcomp’s ampliTex has been customised for and in collaboration with BMW M: a unique weave and colour have been developed specifically for the car manufacturer, notably in a sophisticated design featuring the M logo integrated into the roof’s graphics. As for the car’s exterior, Bcomp’s natural fibre has been used for the roof, the front splitter, the bonnet air intake, the side skirts, the wing mirror housings and the rear diffuser. Inside, ampliTex has been used as a structural element for the backrests of the four newly developed bucket seats.

Designed and developed in Switzerland, AmpliTex is woven from flax fibres. It is therefore a renewable raw material that does not compete with food crops. Its ‘cradle-to-factory-gate’ CO₂ emissions are up to 85% lower than those of carbon fibre. Furthermore, once the parts have reached the end of their service life, they can also be disposed of at conventional waste-to-energy plants, using an environmentally friendly process that recovers energy for reuse, thereby further reducing the net environmental impact.

Besides, AmpliTex offers a high stiffness-to-weight ratio, safer crash performance than carbon fibre, exceptional vibration damping and complete radio transparency, thanks to which it is widely used in motorsport. It is found in particular in Formula 1, Formula E, Super Formula, GT racing, motorbike racing, rallies and many other disciplines.

Christian Fischer, CEO at Bcomp, concluded: “Natural fibres do not pretend to copy carbon fibre composites, they are distinctive and unique. Supplying our ampliTex reinforcement materials for the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse is proof that we have challenged the status quo and conclusively demonstrated the viability of our sustainable composite technologies in both structural and aesthetic high-performance automotive applications. We eagerly anticipate seeing future road-going vehicles featuring our natural fibre composite solutions.”
