Core tips：Evonik plans to invest around €5 million (US$ 5.62 million) in the infrastructure of the Geesthacht site. By 2029, the warehouse and logistics areas are to be gradually expanded by over 3,000 square metres.
The plan is to build a new warehouse and create an area for used empty containers. The goods receiving area will also be optimised with a new building and improved truck access. The renovation of workshop containers and containers for external companies is intended to improve plant logistics. “With these measures, we are not only strengthening our infrastructure, but also creating the basis for developing and producing innovative products at our site in the future,” says site manager Mathias Jammer.
One example of this is the Albidur® products from Geesthacht, which are used, for example, in car electronics, adhesives for wind turbines and fibre composites in aircraft and shipbuilding. Surfboard manufacturer Kanoa is now also using its advantages in the development of particularly sustainable boards. The main advantage: thanks to Albidur®, the use of recycled materials is possible with stronger performance. The Kanoa HRT surfboards are equipped with the patented Honey Roots technology, which combines durable and high-performance surfboards with minimal environmental impact. To achieve this, conventional materials such as carbon and fibreglass have been replaced by natural fibres or recycled materials.
The use of Albidur® in the manufacturing process improves the mechanics and performance of the boards. At the same time, it enables the use of a recyclable epoxy resin without the board becoming brittle and does not affect the recycling process. Thanks to a reactive resin matrix in which silicone elastomer particles are evenly distributed, the impact strength of the boards is increased. Evonik products also help to ensure that the composite parts retain their dimensional stability and that the materials retain their strength and rigidity and fatigue much more slowly. This extends the service life of the surfboards. Albidur® also increases vibration damping and thus improves handling characteristics. Another advantage is that Evonik products protect the epoxy matrix from UV radiation and thus also promote durability and prevent yellowing.

Sustainability plays a role not only on the product side, but also on the production side in Geesthacht: the site has been fully converted to green electricity since this spring.
