Core tips:Ilium Composites, a manufacturer and distributor of fibreglass reinforcement, recently joined the European Pultrusion Technology Association (EPTA), a network of industry professionals committed to advancing pultrusion technologies in Europe, as the newes
Ilium produces highly technical, engineered glass fibre reinforcements, used in the GRP (glass fibre reinforced plastics) industry to produce high quality composites parts. Products are assembled using Ilium’s state-of-the-art technology using a mechanical instead of a chemical binding system. The company recently became a full member of the European Pultrusion Technology Association (EPTA).

Founded in 2010, Ilium aims at “shaping the evolution of closed mould processes.” The company operates from a 6,000m² highly automated manufacturing facility built on a 10,000m2 site within the Bahrain International Investment Park (BIIP) in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Besides, Ilium is ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems certified.

The European Pultrusion Technology Association (EPTA) was created in 1989 by the leading FRC (Fiber Reinforced Composites) Pultruders in Europe and is open for membership to all companies and organisations wishing to promote the responsible use of composites/pultruded profiles and to exchange knowledge between members.

Pultrusion is a continuous manufacturing process of linear composite profiles made of polymeric resins such as polyesters and fibre reinforcement such as glass fibres. Automated pultrusion production technology facilitates today’s high quality and low-cost demands by the market.

Since 2006, the EPTA has existed under the umbrella of the AVK – Industrievereinigung Verstärkte Kunststoffe e.V. in Germany/Frankfurt.
