Swancor today has been working with Siemens Gamesa and global energy leader RWE to develop the epoxy resin that will feature on the offshore wind farm Sofia’s recyclable blades. The blades measure 108 m in length on Siemens Gamesa’ SG 14-222 wind turbines. When completed, the wind farm will have a total installed capacity of 1,400 MW and a power output of up to 14 MW per turbine, and so is a key flagship project in the global offshore wind industry.
A key element of the offshore wind farm is the RecyclableBlade, which uses Swancor’s recyclable epoxy resin, produced at its Taiwan facility. 50 of Sofia’s 100 wind turbines are equipped with the technology, increasing the recyclability rate to more than 90%. This achievement makes RWE’s Sofia Offshore Wind Farm, the world’s first offshore wind farm to implement RecyclableBlade at commercial scale, breaking through the long-standing industry challenge of blade end-of-life disposal and setting a new global precedent for circular sustainability.
Swancor Holding general manager, Aden Tsai, stated: “Seeing RecyclableBlade being installed at Sofia Offshore Wind Farm proves that recyclable resin technology is no longer just a laboratory innovation but a real-world application on a world-class offshore wind project. Moving forward, Swancor Holdings will continue to serve as a strategic investor in sustainable industries, dedicated to deepening our expertise in innovative technologies and key sectors. Through a diversified global layout, we are committed to driving the industry’s green transformation and achieving operational stability and resilience for the group.”
Looking ahead, Swancor will continue to invest in innovation, R&D and strengthen the international collaboration to achieve net-zero and circular economy goals. Sofia Offshore Wind Farm not only demonstrates Taiwan’s key role in the global green energy transition but also marks Swancor’s commitment to sustainable development and its bright prospects.
