The Swiss leading company Gurit, specialised in advanced composite materials, composite tooling equipment and core kitting services, has signed a multi-year contract to supply Corecell structural foam core to the subsea industry. The company believes this will help it expand its presence in Australia and, more broadly, in the Asia-Pacific region, where it will open a new factory to support the contract. Gurit will also take the opportunity to move its current distribution centre to this new site, which is expected to be located near Brisbane, Queensland.
Corecell is a high-performance structural material based on styrene-acrylonitrile (SAN) resin. Gurit began developing it in the 1980s and has made numerous improvements to it since then. It is particularly suitable for extremely high-performance and demanding applications, especially in composite sandwich structures.
“Gurit is a proven supplier of composite materials with outstanding performance to boundary-pushing applications. This major contract marks a significant step in Gurit’s ongoing strategic realignment, accelerating our transformation into a dynamic, multi-market company. This long-term partnership demonstrates our commitment to diversification beyond traditional markets, leveraging our expertise in advanced composites solutions to capture new opportunities across multiple industries,” says Lance Hill, General Manager Marine & Industrial, Gurit.
