Avient unveils new composite tape and utility poles at CAMX

 Avient’s new Polystrand™ tape offers a wide-format, fibreglass-reinforced unidirectional composite material to enable enhanced manufacturing efficiency and increased production scalability. It will be available in a variety of resins, including polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG) and amorphous polyethylene terephthalate (aPET). The customisable tapes, manufactured in Englewood, CO, will advance innovative opportunities for thermoplastic composites in existing and developing markets.

Avient also showcases its new GridCore™ composite utility poles, engineered to enhance electrical grid resilience as an alternative to traditional wood, steel or concrete poles. Compared to poles made from these traditional materials, GridCore fibreglass-reinforced thermoset poles are lighter weight, enabling ease of installation. They are also more durable compared to wood poles, requiring less maintenance and offering pest resistance. These advantages can provide a lower total system and lifecycle cost compared to other materials. The addition of GridCore poles expands Avient’s market-leading portfolio of pultruded composite materials for the electrical transmission and distribution market. Its Glasforms™ pultrusions for insulators, arresters, cross arms and GridCore utility poles are manufactured in Birmingham, AL.

The Avient exhibit also features various composite technologies.

In the field of thermoplastic composites, Avient presents Polystrand™ continuous fibre tapes and laminates, which are fibre-reinforced unidirectional tapes and multi-axial laminates. The exhibit also highlights Hammerhead™ FR flame retardant composite panels alongside Hammerhead™ thermoplastic composite panels, as well as ThermoBallistic™ ballistic resistant composite panels.

For thermoset composites, Avient showcases Gordon Composites™ thermoset laminates and barstock, including continuous glass and carbon fibre bar stock, laminates and composite springs designed for high-temperature industrial applications. Additionally, the exhibit features Gordon Glass™ archery bow limbs, Glasforms™ pultruded rods, tubes and custom profiles and GlasArmor™ ballistic resistant panels.

Finally, under engineered fibre solutions, Avient presents Fiber-Line™ engineered performance enhancing fibre processes, which include coating, twisting and customised braiding of aramid, glass, carbon, HMPE and LCP fibres. The company also introduces the Fiber-Line™ extrusion process, which delivers thermoset pultruded rods and custom extrusion-coated fibre.
