The goal of the 2 companies is to use end-of-life composites to manufacture high-value products for batteries, fuel cells, electrolysers and structural energy storage. Applications range from electrodes and gas diffusion layers to bipolar plates and multifunctional composites.
Frazer Barnes indicates that recycled carbon fibre enables to save 20–30% in costs compared to virgin fibre, with a carbon footprint up to 95% lower. In addition, the supply chain is more secure as domestic waste volumes are high.
