Swiss cleantech company Bcomp (Fribourg), through its 3-year collaboration with e-hybrid and electric car brand Cupra (Martorell, Spain), demonstrates the performance, circularity and increasing adoption of flax fiber concepts into mass production models via the Tindaya concept car.
Both interior and exterior parts and structures feature ampliTex Twill 2/2, from Cupra’s characteristic Cup bucket seats to the car’s exterior bumper. Working closely with Cupra’s Colour, Materials, Finish (CMF) and interior and exterior designers, Bcomp’s team developed a custom copper color finish, echoing Cupra’s signature aesthetic while its raw form connects with the materials and textures of the brand’s visual identity.
The adoption of this bio-based material for visible interior and semi-structural parts is expected to accelerate due to the decarbonization plans of OEMs and governing bodies’ regulatory pressure.
“For Cupra, sustainability goes beyond simply swapping internal combustion engines for battery-powered engines,” says Nicolas Samson, sales manager at Bcomp. “Tindaya is a proof that responsible design choices don’t have to compromise on performance or aesthetics. With collaborators like Cupra, we’re bringing these sustainable materials to a wider market.”
