Launched in May 2025 by the European Composites Industry Association (EuCIA) with JEC as a founding partner, with the aim of advancing the circular economy of composite materials in Europe, demonstrating their essential role in achieving decarbonisation targets and enabling the establishment of standards from design to end of life, the European Circular Composites Alliance (ECCA) is taking a decisive step forward. In five months, more than 160 European companies and organisations have signed the membership charter, confirming the composites industry’s commitment to the circular transition. The Alliance’s first general meeting will be held on 4 December 2025 in Brussels, Belgium, attended by representatives of the European Commission and key industry players.
This meeting will mark an important milestone for the five ECCA working groups set up during the summer. They will present their initial roadmaps towards circularity. Participants will also define priorities for 2026, as the Circular Economy Act, the cornerstone of European green industrial policy, approaches its entry into force.
This meeting will mark an important milestone for the five ECCA working groups set up during the summer. They will present their initial roadmaps towards circularity. Participants will also define priorities for 2026, as the Circular Economy Act, the cornerstone of European green industrial policy, approaches its entry into force. For Roberto Frassine, President of EuCIA, this mobilisation illustrates the maturity of the sector: ““With the ECCA we aim to enable effective stakeholder engagement and build consensus within the value chain on the priority actions for the future. We will set measurable, transparent targets to track progress. Alliances such as the ECCA can help shape future legislation and one of our first actions will be to provide the composites industry’s perspective on the new Circular Economy Act.”
For his part, Eric Pierrejean, CEO of JEC, points out that “as a long-standing partner of EuCIA we fully support this important initiative, which perfectly aligns with our own activities to promote circular solutions in the composites industry. We look forward to collaborating with the ECCA and its members as they take composites circularity to the next level.”
JEC World 2026 (10-12 March 2026, Paris) will provide an ideal platform for assessing the progress made one year after the launch. The ECCA is directly inspired by the Circular Plastics Alliance, which has demonstrated the effectiveness of a collective approach between manufacturers, R&D centres and European institutions. Its objective is to remove the technical, economic and regulatory barriers to the recovery of composite materials, a sector which is worth around €10 billion and provides 200,000 direct jobs in Europe. By placing circularity at the heart of its strategy, the ECCA aims to transform an environmental challenge into a competitive advantage for the European composites industry.
